Eleven Data Collection Services

Realtime & Reliable Football Data

Overview

ELEVEN Data Collection Services comprises tools meticulously crafted for the purpose of collecting, processing, and delivering real-time football match data to bookmakers. The data undergoes collection by analysts, processing by match analysis operators and supervisors, and is then disseminated to bookmakers and data partners globally, emphasizing data accuracy, reliability, and low-latency.

This intricate flow of data involves a diverse and complex array of internal and external teams, including production companies, on-field analysts, remote monitors, rights holders, and bookmakers. Effective management and coordination of these teams are imperative to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of the data.

Project

Focus areas

Content Production

Enable production companies to manage and produce content libraries and live events.

Data Collection

Deliver tools for on-field data collection and remote data analysis.

Support

Design processes and tools to facilitate real-time technical and operational support.

Data Requirements

Collecting and analyzing live football data for bookmakers shares theoretical similarities with data collection for broadcasting. However, in practice, bookmakers demand a much higher level of data granularity and accuracy, often within a timeline that substantially diverges from broadcasting.

With non-negotiable requirements for sub-second latency and high accuracy, the primary emphasis lies on predicting results rather than merely reactive data collection.

This necessitates a set of tools characterized by the flexibility to provide real-time delivery on a non-linear timeline. Additionally, the inclusion of metadata serves to inform partners about the progress of data analysis.

01. Latency

Data Collection.

We adopted a highly iterative and agile design approach to craft interfaces facilitating on-field data collection, coupled with remote analysis, incorporating specific flows tailored to meet the requirements of bookmakers.

Testing—this critical phase is repeated to ensure precision. Collaborating with external partners in a rigorously regulated industry, with an uncompromising focus on security, necessitates a thorough testing process to guarantee the fulfillment of business needs.

In addition to designing interfaces and processes for collection, I also developed interfaces for supervisors to monitor data and testing results.

02. Accuracy

Unknown Factors.

Surprisingly, the most challenging aspect of data collection for sports events lies not on the field, but in the operational realm.

These challenges encompass the impact of weather, stadium security, inconsistent structures of stadium personnel, and managing unforeseen circumstances. All of these factors can exert a significant impact and must be accounted for. In summary, the task involves designing processes and tools that necessitate specific data flows in an unknown environment.

03. Operational

Production Readiness.

My design process placed a strong emphasis on ensuring the operational readiness of external users.

Throughout the iterative process and extensive testing, I crafted user journeys aimed at minimizing potential errors and guiding users to prepare for production as efficiently as possible.
